London Collections: Men: J.W. Anderson AW13
There was a moment of silence as the audience at the J.W. Anderson show tried to digest the complexed simplicity of the opening look. It was an overtly feminine aesthetic, a pair of high waisted shorts with a girly peplum detailing, and black boots with a matching details. It was perhaps the fashion moment of the season, and definitely the highlight of London Collections: Men. Anderson truly flipped the concept of unisex on it’s head by presenting a new type of unapologetic androgyny. One that is neither passive or sensitive. And one that does not rely upon on streamlined asexual clothes to create a unisex vibe. The J.W. Anderson man flaunted his sex appeal much like a woman and looked like a male dominatrix for AW13, in the best way possible. In a fashion week that was heavy on traditional tailoring, it was truly refreshing to be challenged by a totally leftfield concept of menswear fashion. Let’s hope that J.W. Anderson can follow with a knock-out women’s collection next month, as we have come to expect great things from him.
