London Fashion Week: Christopher Raeburn SS13
It’s hard to imagine how Christopher Raeburn’s re-imagining of military fabrics into luxe sportswear for men would translate to womenswear. In his sophomore womenswear collection the designer managed to refine his aesthetic a great deal by opting for much lighter and softer fabrics, which allowed his designs to have a much more feminine edge. The lightness of the fabrics were inspired by 1950’s flight escape maps which were printed on silk rather than paper in case pilots got lost in the rain. The result was less sporty and more utilitarian chic with parkas in laminated lace and silk bomber jackets, transparent white on white (which is turning out to be a major trend in London). By separating the women’s line from his already successful menswear, Christopher is slowly painting the picture of who his women is. And from what we can tell so far is that she is effortlessly chic.
