Milan Men: Jil Sander SS13
One of the most anticipated shows of the menswear season was legendary designer Jil Sander’s return to her namesake label after Raf Simons move to the house of couture. Jil Sander showcased her signature restraint by presenting a long, lean silhouette with double-breasted, sleeveless coats, poplin shirts paired with slightly oversized shorts in navy and black. There was a distinctly abstract theme with geometric patterned tops and cardigans which cleverly referenced the work of Mondrian. On the surface it was a conservative collection, almost utilitarian. However, the slouchy and slightly stiff silhouette’s gave the pieces a more youthful sentiment and a great deal of hanger appeal. The queen of minimalism is certainly back.
