Paris Collections Men: Louis Vuitton AW13
The Vuitton man goes on a journey to the Himalayas and the kingdom of Bhutan for AW12. “A collection is often an actual journey for us; it comprises what you take with you and what you bring back both physically and mentally from the experience,” explains Kim Jones Studio and Style director of Louis Vuitton menswear. The remote kingdom with it’s exotic flora and fauna and Diana Vreeland’s concept of a ‘Garden in Hell’ served as a great backdrop for the label’s utilitarian focus on menswear. The snow leopard design commission by the brand to the Chapman Brothers is a standout and appears throughout the collection in neckties and pocket squares. There is also a subtle take on the snow leopard pattern in the form of a new needle punched jacquard technique incorporating natural coloured mink and cashmere. As to be expected Louis Vuitton had a focus on luxurious outerwear in premium furs and leathers such as astrakhan, sheepskin shearling, fox and mink. Jones also had a keen eye for details with buttons and cufflinks carved from lifted from Mount Everest, a backpackers dream surely. @LouisVuitton_UK
